David Williams ~ WTW Cinemas
The Williams first appear on the Cornish cinema scene in 1947 when Brown & Williams of
Wadebridge take over the
Cinedrome Padstow.  This had for a few years been called the
Regal but they returned it to its former name.  By 1964 it is run by R W Williams and
remains in the WTW circuit to today.

The
Capitol St Austell, run by Capitol (St Austell) Ltd begins to be booked by R W Williams
from the early 1950s.  This continues to be run until 1978 when Classic sell their former
Odeon to David Williams.

R W & D R Williams take over the
Regal in Wadebridge on 30.01.1967 and has remained in
the circuit since.

The
Odeon St Austell had been sold to Classic Cinemas Ltd on 3.12.1967 and renamed
Classic.  On 8.1.1978 they sold this to David Williams.  Closed in 1980 for tripling,
reopening as the Film Centre 16.04.1981 and still operated by the circuit.

The triple screen
Plaza Truro had closed on 28.04.1997 due to concerns over safety of the
electrics.  Purchased by David Williams on 22.5.1997, this was a gamble considering the
buildings licence had been withdrawn.  It was necessary to gut the interior completely,
reopening 10.07.1998 as a 4 screen complex.  In 2006 it won an award as the best
independent cinema in Britain.

David Williams has recently committed to operating a new cinema in
Falmouth, however this
project is looking uncertain.  He is also committed to operating a new cinema in St Austell
which will replace the film centre once it is redeveloped.
