||||||||||||||||||||||
| A Mr Strutt was running a part-time cinema operation in the Public Hall in Callington in the early 1930s having taken over from J H Quick & Sons. This ends in the mid 1930s when Quick & Sons take over again. Briefly in 1935 Bertha Elizabeth Strutt is licencee of an operation in the Town Hall, then taken by William John Hocking. In 1943 Bertha is again running this cinema but it passes to Ernest Levi Honour in 1949. John William Strutt of Weston-Super-Mare takes over the People's Palace Torpoint on 21.09.1932 and renames it Gem. Bertha is also noted as operator of this venue at this time. Passed to Cornwall Cinemas (Newquay) Ltd in 1941. Bertha Strutt & Mr Strutt are also recorded as running Millbrook Liberal Hall on films from 1933 to 1938 when taken by William John Hocking, who passes this onto Ernest Levi Honour in 1949. Whether there was business connections between Strutt's and Quick's or Hocking's is unknown but they were all operating cinemas, mainly part-time in the far south east of Cornwall.
