| In 1911 Bodmin Picture Theatre opened as Bodmin Picture Theatre Ltd. In 1912 Newquay Picture Theatre opened as Newquay Picture Theatre Ltd. In 1913 Launceston Picture Theatre opened as Launceston Picture Theatre Ltd. The man behind this early chain was Walter Ellis Slack. He continued to operate these cinemas until the late 1920s except for Bodmin which closed due to competition from the new Turret Kinema. It is not until 1937 that Mr Slack reappears. He is then living at 7 Marine Terrace, Penzance and on 15.12.1937 takes the Pavilion cinema. However this venture is shortlived as the building is requisitioned for the war effort in 1939 and closed.
