Gone but not forgotten: Village Hall
This remote village is often known by the somewhat shorter spelling of Woolsery. The village hall saw part time 16mm cinema operations from at least 1956 thanks to R L Knight of Barnstaple. By 1957 Woolsery Parish Hall committee had taken over the operation and it continued to entertain the locals until at least 1961.
As with most mobile operations restrictions were laid down in the licence due the vintage nature of the buildings used. At Woolfordisworthy the audience were restricted to 160 with no standing. As there was no secondary lighting battery hand lamps were available to light the exits and exit signs in an emergency. The hall was heated by a single solid fuel stove.
The hall has now been replaced with a substantial new facility.
