The Cinema, as it was simply known opened in 1919 in a narrow lane called Church Lane in the heart of the small town of Great Torrington. The cinema was run by Fred Russell on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday nights.

Plough Arts Centre

Torrington is not without films today, thanks to the Plough Arts Centre, 9-11 Fore Street. A conversion of a rather fine looking town house. Offering a range of art activities, the cinema is equipped with 108 seats and shows a range of mostly art house films, with Dolby sound.
