| Palace ~ New Palace |
| There was a cinema in the Cotswold town of Tetbury from the early 1920s simply known as the Cinema and run by Shaw Phillips. By 1930s it was called the Palace and run by G Adams. It is noted as having a very modest 16ft wide proscenium and a dance hall attached, all of which suggests this may have been housed in a public hall building. Whether a new building or a rebuild, the New Palace appears in the 1930s run by A C Myhill with 350 seats, Marshall sound and a proscenium opening of 30ft. By the 1950s J L Mott is running the New Palace and nothing really changes until closure in the early 1960s. The building was burnt down on the night of 21st-22nd April 1979. The subsequent rebuilding includes a small shopping mall and flats, the entrance hall of the cinema, still with its distinct curved canopy is in use today as a public convenience. |
