| St Just (in Penwith) is in the heart of the industrial landscape of this remote part of Cornwall. Films have been shown at the Working Men's Club in Cape Cornwall Street since the 1920s when it seated 156 and no rewinding of films was allowed during any performance. The earliest recorded operator was W H Curnow and then C Oates. Improvements were made and by the 1930s seating had increased to 330 with BTH: British Thomson Houston sound and the cinema gained the name Cape. By WWII Duchy Cinemas Ltd were operating this venue, by 1949 the operator was B Proctor. With the decline in the local industry and population the cinema the cinema closed in the early 1970s. |
