SALCOMBE
Gone but not forgotten:        Town Hall ~ Lyric
This cinema operation, based in the small town hall between Market Street and Fore Street on a steep
slope, is first recorded in the late 1920s.  The operator was S Goodyear of Salcombe.

By the 1930s Salcombe Town Hall Company Ltd were listed as operators with Mihaly sound.  Seating was for
173 and the proscenium was 22' wide.  In the 1950s Film Industries sound was installed.

Finally the cinema was run by Mrs Bertha Strutt in 1959 and had been named Lyric and there was a cafe
operating on site and a CinemaScope screen of 22' by 9' was present.  The cinema closed soon afterwards
and the building has subsequently been demolished.
