NEWLYN
Gaiety
This delightful little cinema, accessed via a bridge across the
Tolcarne River was opened in 1921 and designed by the
Penzance architect practice of
Cowell, Drewitt and Wheatly.
There was seating for 360 and the screen was at the front of
the building.  The stage was 8' deep with a 24' wide
proscenium.

Ran by Reginald Hennessey, by the mid 1930s it had passed to
Robert Thomas of Penzance until being taken over by Harry
Herbert Flower of Newlyn who operated the cinema through
out the 1960s and until closure around 1970.  The original
British Thomson Houston sound became RCA in the late 1950's
along with a 17' by 10' 4" screen.  The building is now a
restaurant.
