BUGLE
Picturedrome
Built by Mr William H Walford who ran the Cinema in Fowey the
Picturedrome opened in 1920 with the dual purpose of Concert
and Picture Hall, the 'Cinema', as it was normally called was
situated on Rosevear Road on the edge of the village.  The facade
featured a fine Saxon style arch around the entrance with spiral
columns as support.  The building is only 30ft wide but extends
back 70ft, and the stage was said to have been 30ft deep with 2
dressing rooms.  Although it opened with a projection box (over
the foyer), no rewinding room was provided.  The seating
capacity was 296 on a single floor.  The cinema operation was
part-time and was later run by Arthur Barnett and does not
appear to have adopted sound, closing 1932.  The building
remains today, minus its arch as an industrial unit.
